During an interview with NBA reporter K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, Chicago Bulls guard DeMar DeRozan talked about Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James becoming the first player in league history to score 40,000 career points.
“I was telling somebody the other night when I passed 23,000, I went home and I realized this man has 40,000,” DeRozan said. “Like, c’mon man. In my opinion, I don’t think anybody will ever break that. It’s the most incredible thing you can ever witness. Props to LeBron to be dominant for 21 years.”
LeBron is the leading scorer in NBA history. Despite being the oldest player in the league this year, The King is still a dominant force.
“I feel like I’m still that threat out on the floor and I am still able to do the things that I was doing 10 years ago,” LeBron said. “And some things I was doing 20 years ago, which is weird to say.”
LeBron is first in NBA history in points, second in field goals, fourth in assists, ninth in steals, fifth in triple-doubles, seventh in points per game, third in player efficiency rating and eighth in 3-point field goals.
LeBron is the only player in NBA history to rank top five all-time in both points and assists. He’s also the only player to have at least 40,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 career assists.
DeRozan is 35th in NBA history in points. He will pass Hall of Famers Elgin Baylor and Dwyane Wade soon.
“It’s a special thing,” DeRozan said. “Because when you sit back, I realize I played against some of the greatest scorers in this league. To still be playing and passing guys is beyond amazing. Steph (Curry), James (Harden), Russ (Westbrook), KD (Kevin Durant), we’re all in the top-35 scoring of all-time. It really doesn’t hit me fully until the offseason when I really look at it. And that don’t come from accident. It comes with hard work, sacrificing, lot of pain. So it’s definitely something that’s cool.”
