Free agent center DeMarcus Cousins may be nearing a deal to play in the Chinese Basketball Association, per Orazio Cauchi of BasketNews.
Cousins, 33, has drawn little interest from the NBA over the past year, though has stated he wants to continue his career. Perhaps doing so overseas will help put him back on the NBA radar.
He has already spent some time playing professionally in Puerto Rico, signing with the Guaynabo Mets in April and averaging 20.4 points, 11 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
He last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season with the Nuggets and Bucks. In that season, he played 48 games total and averaged 9.0 points and 5.6 rebounds.
Cauchi did not specify which Chinese team Cousins may join, only that a deal could be reached this week.
“The expectation is that a deal will be finalized sooner rather than later, another source told BasketNews,” Cauchi wrote. “Cousins was already in China recently for a series of promotional events, and the negotiations have intensified since he arrived in the country.”
The No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Cousins is a six-time All-Star. He spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Kings, then played for the Pelicans, Warriors, Warriors, Rockets, Bucks, Clippers and Nuggets.
