The Detroit Pistons are promoting guard/forward Stanley Umude from a two-way contract to a standard two-year deal, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Umude, 24, is 6-foot-6 and appeared in 17 games in his second NBA season, signing a two-way deal with Detroit in October. He played one game with the Pistons last year as a rookie.
He carries NBA career averages of 5.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists, shooting 48 percent from the field and 55 percent on 3-pointers.
As Charania noted, he is also scoring 17 a night for the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons’ G League affiliate.
Detroit is in full rebuild mode and these types of roster moves are expected to be the norm in the post-break portion of the season. In other words, Umude’s two-way spot is likely to be filled soon.
While details weren’t reported, his deal is likely guaranteed for the remainder of the season, with a team option for next year.
