Neither the Grizzlies nor Dillon Brooks‘ agent is happy with a report that stated Memphis will make no attempt to re-sign Brooks “under any circumstance.”
While it seems as if the Grizzlies do indeed plan to part ways with Brooks and let him sign elsewhere, they apparently were not fans of how the report was presented. Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the news on Brooks, as we relayed here.
“I hate speculating about somebody else’s sources but I can tell you the Grizzlies did not want the messaging out there of basically ‘Dillon Brooks is the scapegoat, we’re dumping Dillon Brooks and everything’s gonna be fine,'” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said, via HoopsHype.
Along with that, Brooks’ agent, Mike George, blasted the report, calling out Charania by name.
George tweeted that Charania “is the leader of spreading false news and attacking players. Why any player in the league talks to this guy blows my mind.”
That said, no matter how others spin it, Charania is highly likely correct — the Grizzlies do not intend to bring back Brooks, and seem willing to let him walk for nothing.
Whether that sounds harsh really isn’t the reporter’s fault.
As we relayed here, Brooks has been linked to the Heat and several others. (Full post.)

Whoever came up with the phrase “under any circumstances”, whether the Grizz front office ir Shams isnt clear to me. That is where there extra unnecessary and unprofessional stab took place. You dont need to say that part out loud (if Sham reporting it verbatim, thats the Grizz scapegoating).
