Kings center/forward Domantas Sabonis and Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas both joined practice with the Lithuanian national team ahead of the 2022 Eurobasket, the Lithuanian basketball federation announced.
“Per the FIBA-NBA agreement, NBA players — unless there’s a special arrangement with their franchise — can be part of the preparation period of their national team for 28 days before major FIBA tournaments and 14 days before the Olympics,” Eurohoops wrote.
Sabonis, 26, was acquired by the Kings as part of a February trade with the Pacers. He averaged 18.9 points and 12.1 rebounds in 15 games with Sacramento.
Valanciunas, 30, is coming off his first season with the Pelicans after runs with the Raptors and Grizzlies. He appeared in 74 games last year, averaging a career-high 17.8 points to go with 11.4 rebounds.
Lithuania has already defeated Estonia in an exhibition game that did not include Sabonis and Valanciunas.
