Warriors forward Draymond Green said he’s open to declining his $27.7 million player option this offseason in order to sign a new multiyear deal with Golden State, according to Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard.
“Rich and I discussed it a couple months ago briefly,” Green told Kawakami. “But in an ideal world… I think the best path would be to decline and extend.”
Green noted that he and agent Rich Paul have not had in-depth discussions yet, with plans to revisit the situation after the season.
A new deal could benefit both sides, potentially giving Green long-term security while lowering his 2026-27 cap hit and increasing the team’s financial flexibility.
Green added that he expects the Warriors to remain aggressive in building the roster.
“Joe is just always trying to win,” he said of owner Joe Lacob. “Whatever is going to give him the best possible chance to win… that’s what he’s going to do.”
The veteran forward also indicated he and Stephen Curry have discussed their futures in shorter terms.
“We both agreed we had two or three more summers,” Green said.
Green expressed confidence that head coach Steve Kerr will return next season and emphasized his desire to finish his career in Golden State on good terms.
“I want to make sure that whenever my time is up here, that it ends the way it’s supposed to end,” he said.
