The Thunder keep stacking wins, and now the question is officially on the table. Can a 21-1 team really chase down the holy grail of regular-season dominance and get to 74?
Sam Amick of The Athletic floated it, and Draymond Green didn’t laugh it off. In fact, the former heartbeat of the 73-win Warriors thinks Oklahoma City has the juice to break their record.
“I do think they’re capable,” Green told Amick on Tuesday. “You just need so many things to go right, though. From health … although they kind of plow right through health issues so it don’t matter, it seems. You need a lot of breaks to go your way, but they’re on the right track.
“I think 73 wins took some years off my life. But like I said, they’re capable of a lot.”
There’s no denying the momentum. The Thunder have already beaten Golden State twice this season and did it again Tuesday night at Chase Center. Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 38 and shut the door on a Warriors rally, leaving Golden State sitting at 11-11 and bracing for at least three more games without Stephen Curry.
The Thunder aren’t just winning. They’re wiping teams out, playing with joy, depth and absurd poise for a group led by a superstar who’s still only 27.
Seventy-four is a long way off. But right now, Oklahoma City is the only team on earth making it feel like a real conversation.
