Draymond Green told NBA legend Carmelo Anthony that the Golden State Warriors easily win the championship this season with LeBron James and Stephen Curry on the team.

Anthony, though, disagreed with Green.

The Warriors tried to acquire LeBron from the Los Angeles Lakers at this year’s NBA trade deadline. Lakers owner Jeanie Buss directed Warriors owner Joe Lacob to speak to LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, to discuss the star’s desire to be traded.

Paul told Lacob that his client wasn’t interested in getting traded.

LeBron, 39, can become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he declines his 2024-25 player option with the Lakers worth $51.4 million. If LeBron becomes a free agent, the Warriors will pursue him again, a source told Hoops Wire.

Green and LeBron are very close friends. The Warriors legend is also represented by Paul.

“I actually heard about it when everybody else heard about it,” LeBron said about the Warriors trade rumor while speaking on Inside the NBA on TNT during All-Star Weekend. “Sometimes there’s conversations that happen behind closed doors that you don’t even know about it. And I guess until it’s real or not, then they’ll bring it to you. But it never even got to me.”

Green told the Warriors to not trade Jonathan Kuminga to the Lakers for LeBron. According to NBA insider Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Warriors’ attempt to acquire LeBron from the Lakers “was never, ever supposed” to leak.

Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski broke the story of the Warriors trying to trade for LeBron.

“Woj and I started working on it last Thursday night after the trade deadline,” Shelburne said on Zach Lowe’s podcast. “Everyone we called to check on it, I think their first reaction was, ‘How the hell did you hear about this? How the hell did you even get wind of it?’ Because like we use the word clandestine in the story, but it was. Another person said top secret. Like this was never, ever supposed to get out.”
