Most of the talk surrounding the Nets centers on Kevin Durant and his trade request.
OK, all of the talk surrounding the Nets centers on Durant. And when you’re not talking Durant trade, you’re talking Kyrie Irving, and the Nets’ plans for him.
But Brooklyn still has a team to build, other options to explore. And veteran center Dwight Howard appears to be on their radar.
Brooklyn is without a doubt on his, anyway, as Howard told Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports.
Howard is an unrestricted free agent and has found the market to be limited. When Robinson asked if he has an interest in the Nets, Howard responded, “Yes I am. Would love that.”
Howard, 36, is an eight-time All-Star. Those days are clearly behind him, though he has proven he can still help a team. Last season with the Lakers, he appeared in 60 games, averaging 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds, and proved to add hustle and size defensively.
Granted, the Nets aren’t likely to make many more move until they figure out what’s next for Durant (and Irving), but Howard could likely be had for a one-year, veteran’s minimum deal. Adding him would likely be a low risk.
While Howard may not end up in Brooklyn, you can expect to find him somewhere once training camp begins. It is pretty clear the No. 1 overall pick still wants to play, and he can still offer help in reserve.
