Former NBA guard Mo Williams is expected to land at Kentucky.

According to Jack Pilgrim of KSR, Williams is set to join Mark Pope’s staff as an assistant after serving as head coach at Jackson State.

There’s a family angle here, too. Williams’ son, Mason, recently committed to Kentucky, making him Pope’s first pledge of the spring.

Williams, 42, spent 13 seasons in the NBA, including two stints with the Cavaliers. He was an All-Star in 2008-09 alongside LeBron James and returned for Cleveland’s 2016 championship run.

He’s been in coaching since retiring, with stops at Cal State Northridge, Alabama State and Jackson State.

Now comes the next step. Pope recently praised Williams as “one of the best basketball guys and ambassadors to the game,” and the Wildcats had an opening on staff.

It appears they’ve found their guy.
