Former Wizards and Thunder coach Scott Brooks may be among the candidates for the Lakers coaching vacancy, according to Dan Woike and Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
As we relayed earlier, Brooks is listed among several potential replacements for Frank Vogel, along with Mike Brown (link) and Terry Stotts (link). The Lakers parted ways with Vogel after the season.
Brooks, 56, spent last season as an assistant under Chauncey Billups with the Trail Blazers. Before that, he coached the Wizards for five seasons, after a run with the Thunder from 2008-15.
In both instances, Brooks coached and was a favorite of current Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook. Overall, Brooks’ teams have generally been unified and he often wins over the respect of the star players. Both were areas in which Vogel was lacking this past season.
In 12 seasons overall, Brooks has compiled a 521-414 record, coaching Westbrook, Kevin Durant, James Harden and the Thunder to the Finals in 2011-12, when they lost to James and the Heat.
Along with Brooks, Stotts and Brown, Jazz assistant Alex Jensen is supposedly among those on the Lakers’ radar. Raptors coach Nick Nurse, Jazz coach Quin Snyder and Michigan coach Juwan Howard may also be coaches the Lakers would like to put on their list of candidates, though it’s not known if any will become available.
