Forward/center Marvin Bagley III is headed for restricted free agency this summer, but it appears as if he’s already leaning toward staying with the Pistons.
Bagley spoked about his future exclusively with James Edwards of The Athletic.
“We’ve got some amazing talent here. Now, it’s about figuring out how to work together, gel together to do something bigger,” Bagley told Edwards. “I’m definitely excited about it. I can’t wait to be around the guys even more, figure them out even more and make runs in the playoffs … even get some championships here. I’m excited about it.”
Bagley was acquired at the trade deadline from the Kings in a multi-team deal that involved seven players. The former No. 2 overall pick, Bagley and the Pistons seem like a much better fit than he was with Sacramento.
“Bagley didn’t receive a rookie scale extension with Sacramento,” noted Dana Gauruder of Hoops Rumors. “His qualifying offer, which would make him a restricted free agent, will be $7.3MM since he won’t meet the starter criteria.”
