A second straight postseason meltdown could result in changes to the Suns’ front office and coaching staff, including GM James Jones and coach Monty Williams, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
“Some heads are going to roll for this one,” MacMahon quoted a rival scout as saying at halftime of the Suns’ Game 6 loss to the Nuggets.
This marks the second year in two tries that the Suns have lost badly at home in an elimination game. This after trading for star forward Kevin Durant.
That likely doesn’t sit well with new team owner Mat Ishbia.
Along with the potential changes up top, league sources wonder if point guard Chris Paul or center Deandre Ayton will return, per MacMahon. As we wrote in our offseason primer, the Suns have a team option on Paul, who missed all but the first two games of the series with a groin injury.
“We need to understand each other on a different level individually and as basketball players, and I think that will come,” Durant said, via MacMahon. “So we’ll see what happens. Definitely frustrating and disappointing and embarrassing.”
