The expansion Mexico City Capitanes will play games in existing G League markets because of travel restrictions and will practice and be housed in Fort Worth, Texas, as relayed by veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein of Substack.
The relocation of the Capitanes presumably will only last for the 2021-22 season, though much of it will depend on the unpredictability of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It remains to be seen if the Capitanes will host games in one arena or remain on the road, as the NBA has yet to make an official announcement.
Other Texas-based teams include the Texas Legends (Frisco), Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Edinburg) and Austin Spurs, with the OKC Blue not far from Fort Worth.
For the first time, the G League will have 30 teams, and 28 of them are affiliated with parent clubs.
