Pistons GM Troy Weaver has one mission when it comes to the offseason: Improve the roster.
They already made a move with the coaching staff, making a splash by hiring former Suns coach Monty Williams. Now, Weaver and the Pistons need to figure out what to do with the No. 5 overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft and the free agency period that follows.
“We’re open to improving the team,” Weaver said when asked by Kory Woods of MLive if the Pistons are open to trading their lottery pick. “Do we like the players we’ve been vetting out at 5? Absolutely. We’re still open to different opportunities as well.”
For now, Houston forward Jarace Walker, Villanova forward Cam Whitmore and Overtime Elite guard Amen Thompson are said to be among the players the Pistons could consider at No. 5.
“We want serious basketball players that are committed to restoring the Pistons,” Weaver said, via Woods. “We want guys that want to represent the Pistons on the court and off the court, in the community.”
