Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has become the latest big name to enter the NBA’s health and safety protocol, as the team relayed on Wednesday.
Morant had already been out because of a knee injury, suffered in late November. Somewhat surprisingly, the Grizzlies (14-10) have won five straight in his absence.
Morant will now have to sit out at least another 10 days, or return two negative tests in a 24-hour span. It’s not clear how much longer it would be before he’s expected to return from the knee injury — though he theoretically has been closer to practicing and game action.
Now, that seemingly will be delayed again.
Morant, 22, is 6-foot-3 and is averaging 24.1 points, 6.8 assists and 5.6 rebounds, shooting 48 percent from the field, in 19 games.
