Star guard Ja Morant will be away from the Grizzlies for at least the next two games, the team announced.
Memphis made the announcement after an Instagram Live post appeared to show Morant flashing a gun at a strip club (video on Twitter).
The Grizzlies offered no specific reason why Morant will be away from the team; they did not say if he had been suspended.
“We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating,” league spokesperson Mike Bass said in a statement.
Morant is clearly one of the league’s top young point guards as the Grizzlies (38-24) continue to impress in their fight for Western Conference playoff positioning. But this latest incident follows a report from The Washington Post that detailed his altercation with a 17-year-old during a pickup basketball game in July.
Morant was accused of brandishing a gun in that incident, an allegation his legal team vehemently denied following the Post story.
So it’s safe to say the timing of the latest incident is less-than-ideal.
