The Grizzlies have signed guard Dakota Mathias to a contract for training camp, the team announced in a press release.
Along with that move, they also waived center/forward E.J. Onu and forward Romeo Weems, signed earlier in the week.
Mathias, 27, is 6-foot-4 and appeared in six games with the Grizzlies last season after signing a pair of six-game contracts. He played eight games with the 76ers the year before that as a two-way player.
Originally undrafted out of Purdue in 2018, Mathias spent a season in Spain before making his way to the G League. Outside shooting is considered his strength, as he’s made nearly 40 percent of his 3-pointers with the Texas Legends.
Onu, 23, is 6-11 and appeared in 25 games with the Hustle last season, averaging 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds. He has also spent time with the Texas Legends of the G League and Niagara River Lions of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. He went undrafted out of Shawnee State in 2021.
Weems, 21, is 6-7 and appeared in three games with the Hustle in the 2021 G League Showcase Cup. He went undrafted out of DePaul in 2021.
All three players likely headed to the G League with Memphis’ affiliate.
