The Grizzlies may be open for business on Ja Morant. Just not with New Orleans.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein of The Stein Line, Memphis and the Pelicans are not engaged in Morant trade talks. That doesn’t mean the Grizzlies aren’t listening elsewhere.

Far from it.

League sources tell Hoops Wire that Morant and Memphis have mutual interest in exploring a split, with rival executives believing the Grizzlies are prioritizing draft capital and young players in any potential deal. Morant does not have a no-trade clause and is owed $39.4 million this season.

There’s also internal tension. Sources say Morant has been unhappy with head coach Tuomas Iisalo’s rotation style, particularly the frequent short shifts and mass substitutions that have made it difficult for him to find rhythm.

Morant has appeared in just 20 games this season, averaging 19.5 points, 8.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds, though his shooting numbers have dipped. He’s currently sidelined with a UCL sprain in his left elbow and is expected to miss roughly three weeks.

Around the league, Morant has been linked to Milwaukee, Toronto, Sacramento and Miami. Memphis sits 11th in the West. The Pelicans, meanwhile, own the conference’s worst record and appear to be on the outside looking in.

The Feb. 5 deadline is getting louder. Morant’s name is part of the noise.
