The Grizzlies are exploring trades centered on point guard Tyus Jones, per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
The timing, of course, is a bit interesting, with star guard Ja Morant having been suspended by the NBA for the first 25 games of 2023-24. Jones filled in admirably this past season when Morant was sidelined.
Then again, Jones is viewed as a potential starter for some rival teams — an idea that could bring Memphis a decent return.
Jones, 27, appeared in 80 games, averaging 10.3 points and 5.2 assists, shooting 44 percent from the field and 37 percent on 3-pointers. Coach Taylor Jenkins has praised Jones’ leadership and ability to direct the offense.
He signed a two-year, $30 million deal with the Grizzlies in 2022.
Fischer did not specify which teams might have an interest, though it is believed the Wizards may be among them.
