The Grizzlies have waived guard/forward Sean McDermott and forward Matthew Hurt just several days after signing both, the team announced in a press release.
Along with those moves, the Grizzlies signed center/forward E.J. Onu and forward Romeo Weems. All four players are likely headed to the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies’ G League affiliate.
McDermott, 24, is 6-foot-6 and actually appeared in 18 games with the Grizzlies as a rookie on a two-way contract in 2020-21, averaging 2.2 points. Memphis brought him back last September before waiving him prior to the start of the season.
Hurt, 22, is 6-9 and went undrafted out of Duke in 2021. He spent last season with the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies’ G League affiliate.
Onu, 23, is 6-11 and appeared in 25 games with the Hustle last season, averaging 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds. He has also spent time with the Texas Legends of the G League and Niagara River Lions of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. He went undrafted out of Shawnee State in 2021.
Weems, 21, is 6-7 and appeared in three games with the Hustle in the 2021 G League Showcase Cup. He went undrafted out of DePaul in 2021.
