The Hawks are planning to call up guard/forward Lance Stephenson from the Grand Rapids Gold of the G League, per Marc Stein of the Stein Line.
Stephenson, 31, is 6-foot-6 and has extensive NBA experience. But he hasn’t played in the league since the 2018-19 season — when he averaged 7.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 68 games with the Lakers. After that, he spent some time with the Liaoning Flying Leopards of the Chinese Basketball Association.
He made a name for himself with the Pacers, but has also served stints with the Timberwolves, Pelicans, Grizzlies, Clippers and Hornets. He’s actually played for Indiana on two separate occasions.
Stephenson is carrying averages of 19.7 points and 7.8 rebounds with the Gold, in their first season as the Nuggets’ affiliate. The Gold drafted him with the No. 13 overall pick in the G League Draft back in October.
Hawks star Trae Young was the team’s lone player in health and safety protocols as of Tuesday morning.
