The Hawks are undoubtedly exploring ways trades centered on guard Dejounte Murray. There are just too many reports saying as much for it to be false.
But that doesn’t mean Murray, one of the league’s classiest pros, has to address them.
Murray indicated that he intends to just keep doing his job, rumors or not, in an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape.
“I tell several people who I stand for as a person. That is who Dejounte is. As a man or person, however you want to put it, it’s not appropriate for me to talk about that or let that get in the way for my teammates,” Murray said, via Spears. “I love my teammates. My teammates love me. I’m not a GM, owner, an agent, none of those things. I’m a basketball player. I’m a hooper. So, I continue to learn, lead and work hard.”
Per Spears, the Hawks have decided that Murray’s pairing with fellow standout guard Trae Young just isn’t working. At least, not enough to put them into contention. They often look like barely a playoff team.
That’s not Murray’s fault. Nor is it the fault of Young. Sometimes, really good pieces just don’t lead to winning. When that’s the case, you have to consider changes.
That is what Atlanta clearly is doing with less than a month to go before the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
Murray, 27, has been linked to the Lakers, Knicks, Spurs and several others.
