Hawks Tradition Of Home Games On MLK Day Ends, Thanks To CFP Title Tilt

The Atlanta Hawks have had quite a run of home games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. That run has reached an end.Trae Young and coach Quin Snyder, Hawks, NBA

Why? Because the College Football Playoff national championship game takes place on Jan. 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. So the Hawks will instead travel to New York to face the Knicks on that day, MLK Day, Jan. 20.

The NBA released its schedule last week, with the Hawks to open the season vs. the Nets on Oct. 23 in Atlanta. In fact, three of Atlanta’s first four games are at home.

The Hawks will also be playing eight nationally televised games, though only one apiece on TNT and ESPN. Both of those are against the Spurs. The other six other nationally televised games are on NBA TV.

As for college football, this marks the first year that 12 teams will be in the CFP, stretching the title game all the way to late January.

As for the Hawks, I recently joined Brice Hill of Bleav in Hawks to discuss the offseason and more. Check it out on YouTube or directly below.

Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“As previously reported, the Hawks will take part in the NBA Cup, the In-Season Tournament last season, as part of the East Group C with the Celtics, Bulls, Cavaliers and Wizards. Those games will be played in November.

“The longest homestand will be six games in March against Bucks, two straight with the Pacers, 76ers, Hornets and Clippers.

“The longest road trip will be five games in December and January against the Raptors, Nuggets, Lakers, Clippers and Suns.”
