Hawks To Deal Gallinari, Picks To Spurs In Exchange For All-Star Guard Dejounte Murray

The Atlanta Hawks are sending a message that they will be a force in the East.

The Hawks are making a deal to acquire the services of All-Star guard Dejounte Murray. The Hawks will send Danilo Gallinari and several first-round picks to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Wojnarowski also reported via Twitter that “the Hawks are sending a 2023 first-round pick via Charlotte, and their own 2025 and 2027 first-round picks to the Spurs in the deal . . . Spurs will also get a pick swap in 2026.”

Murray, 25, is 6-foot-4 and plays both guard spots. He has been with the Spurs all six years of his career, missing the entire 2018-19 season after suffering a torn ACL. Last year, he made his first All-Star Game appearance in averaging 21.1 points, 9.2 assists and 8.3 rebounds.

For the Hawks, teaming Murray with Trae Young would mean an explosive backcourt that would be among the NBA’s most lethal.

One year after reaching the Eastern Conference finals, the Hawks had to qualify for the playoffs via the play-in tournament. They then lost to the Heat in five games in the first round.
