Free agent forward Stanley Johnson is joining the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s G League affiliate, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.com.
Johnson, 26, is 6-foot-6 and was acquired by the Jazz from the Lakers before the season, along with guard/forward Talen Horton-Tucker, in exchange for guard Patrick Beverley.
The No. 8 overall pick by the Pistons in 2015, Johnson will become an unrestricted free agent upon clearing waivers. So there stands a good chance he could end up on another roster before the season tips off next week.
In 48 games with the Lakers last season, Johnson averaged 6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds. He signed a total of four 10-day contracts in 2021-22 — one with the Bulls, followed by three with the Lakers. He eventually signed a standard deal with LA in late January.
Along with the Lakers, Bulls and Pistons, Johnson has spent time with the Pelicans and Raptors.
As Scotto relayed, the Heat have an open roster spot, which could lead to a promotion to the parent club for Johnson before too long.
Johnson is just one of multiple former lottery picks on our list of available free agents. You can check out the full list here.
