The Heat are signing guard/forward Haywood Highsmith to a 10-day hardship contract, agent Jerry Dianis told JD Shaw of Hoops Rumors.
Highsmith, 25, is 6-foot-4 and has been playing for the G League’s Delaware Blue Coats, the 76ers’ affiliate. For Delaware, he is averaging 14.0 points and 5.2 rebounds in 12 appearances.
He also has some NBA experience, appearing in five games for the 76ers in 2018-19.
“Miami has been hit hard by injuries and COVID-19 as of late, resulting in a postponement of the team’s game in San Antonio on Wednesday,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “The Heat, who have already reportedly reached deals with Kyle Guy and Aric Holman, may need to continue adding replacement players to avoid risking any additional postponements.”
Zylan Cheatham, Udonis Haslem, Kyle Lowry, Max Strus, P.J. Tucker and Gabe Vincent are the players currently in healthy and safety protocol for Miami.
Highsmith went undrafted by the NBA out of Division II Wheeling (W.Va.) University in 2018.
