The Heat are signing guard Mario Chalmers to a 10-day contract via the hardship exception, agent Jerry Dianis told Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Chalmers, 35, spent his first seven seasons in Miami, played in four straight Finals and won two championships alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. But he hasn’t played in the NBA since 2018.
He has, however, been playing for the G League’s Grand Rapids Gold, the Nuggets’ affiliate. In two games with the Gold, he averaged 8.5 points and 3.0 assists.
Chalmers last played with the Grizzlies (2015-16), before heading overseas.
He becomes the latest 10-day signing for the Heat, who have become desperate for bodies. They had a whopping 12 players unavailable for their game Wednesday vs. the Spurs, causing the game to be postponed.
Along with Chalmers, the Heat have added Nik Stauskas, Haywood Highsmith, Kyle Guy and Aric Holman on hardship deals.
