The Heat intend to sign point guard Kyle Guy to a second 10-day hardship contract, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Guy, 24, is 6-foot-1 and made a strong impression, averaging 9.8 points and shooting 45 percent on 3-pointers in his first five games.
His initial 10-day deal expired over the weekend, and he indicated he wasn’t certain if a new one was coming.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and making the most of it,” Guy said Friday. “So they’ll tell me when they think they need to tell me. Whether that’s at the end of the 10-day or today or tomorrow, I don’t know. So we’ll see. But I have no idea.”
Apparently, the Heat didn’t like the idea of letting him leave for nothing — especially since the former second-round pick likely would have signed elsewhere.
“I think they’ve obviously watched film and know what I do,” Guy told reporters. “I shoot the ball, I can be aggressive, get in the paint and make the right plays, facilitate, scrappy on defense. So they just play to my strengths. That’s how they’ve developed a lot of their guys to be like that. I already had some of the traits coming in, so I think it was just an easy transition. The feeling is mutual, they like me and I love it here.”
Guy appeared in 31 games with the Kings last season, and three the year before that as a rookie. He attended training camp with the Cavaliers.
