Coach James Borrego downplayed a confrontation with rookie guard James Bouknight during the Hornets’ loss to the Heat on Saturday.
“Obviously, we were a little frustrated in the third quarter, early fourth,” Borrego said. “We got a little emotional there. Beyond that, I’ll leave it there.”
Bouknight was a lottery pick but has played only sporadically behind reigning Rookie of the Year LaMelo Ball and veteran guard Terry Rozier.
“He obviously wants to play,” Borrego said. “I get that. He’s a kid we believe in, we trust in. We’re going to try to find more minutes for him, more time.”

During the game, Borrego appeared to say something to Bouknight, who stood up and challenged the coach. Borrego turned his attention back to the court — and a Hornets staff member led Bouknight to the locker room. He never returned to the bench.
Bouknight was appeared in 25 games and is averaging 4.8 points. He was selected with the No. 11 overall pick.
