The Charlotte Hornets have signed guards Marcus Garrett and Caleb McConnell, forward Keyontae Johnson and center Joel Soriano to training camp contracts, the team announced in a press release.
All four likely received nonguaranteed Exhibit 10 deals, though the Hornets do have an available two-way slot.
Garrett has been on a two-way deal with the Miami Heat and spent last season with the Greensboro Swarm, the Hornets’ G League affiliate. He averaged 10.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals for the Swarm.
McConnell also spent last season in the G League, with the championship-winning Oklahoma City Blue, averaging 7.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals. He played for Charlotte’s summer team in July and averaged 3.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists in six appearances.
Johnson also played for the Blue, as well as spent part of last season with the Thunder. In 38 G League games, he averaged 19.7 points and 6.2 rebounds.
Soriano is a rookie who went undrafted out of St. John’s this past June. He averaged 13.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks as a senior with the Red Storm.
An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
