When it comes to trade interest in Donovan Mitchell, we always hear about the Knicks. But they aren’t alone.
Per Shams Charania and Tony Jones of The Athletic, the Hornets and Wizards are also pursuing a Mitchell deal with the Jazz. Whether either those teams have actually spoken to Utah was not revealed.
All we know, per Charania and Jones, is that the Jazz and Knicks are revisiting their own conversations. But it would make sense for Jazz CEO Danny Ainge to discuss deals with multiple rival teams.
After all, Ainge is more concerned with getting the best deal for Mitchell than he is with making sure Mitchell lands with the Knicks.
There is also the possibility that the Jazz could jut keep Mitchell — who has three years remaining on his contract and has remained professional in the face of the many rumors.
“At this point, Mitchell is comfortable with either staying with the Jazz or being traded elsewhere,” RealGM relayed.
Mitchell, 25, is 6-foot-1 and has spent his entire career with the Jazz. He averaged 25.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 67 games last season. While the Jazz are open to keeping him, it is seeming less and less likely he will return to Utah.
Sources have told Hoops Wire the Wizards also have an interest in available Nets star Kevin Durant, though that was viewed as exploratory only. There pursuit of Mitchell is likely to be more aggressive, sources said.
