Point guard Ish Smith has joined a long list of Hornets players in the NBA’s health and safety protocol, the team announced.
Smith is the fifth Charlotte player in the last four days to be placed in protocol. Starting guards Lonzo Ball and Terry Rozier, small forward Jaden McDaniels and center Mason Plumlee were all placed in it previously.
Like the others, Smith will be sidelined for at least 10 days unless he records two negative tests in a 24-hour span.
Smith, 33, is 6-foot-0 and putting up averages of 4.8 points and 2.4 assists in 18 games. He is in his first season with the Hornets after spending time with the Wizards, Pistons, 76ers, Pelicans, Thunder, Magic, Warriors, Grizzlies and Rockets since 2010.
The Hornets are obviously in quite a pickle, down two starters and their top backup in the backcourt. It should offer an extra opportunity for rookie guard James Bouknight, who was recently called up from the G League.
