The New Orleans Pelicans and Houston Rockets tried to trade for Allen, while Garland drew interest from the Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs, sources said.

The Cavaliers are running their “Core 4” of Garland, Allen, Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley back next season.

Garland averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.1 blocks for the Cavaliers in 2023-24 while shooting 44.6% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 83.4% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $36.7 million next season.

Meanwhile, Allen averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.1 blocks this past season while shooting 63.4% from the field and 74.2% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $20 million next season.

The Cavaliers and Allen have agreed to a three-year, $91 million extension. The 26-year-old center has career averages of 12.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.3 blocks with the Brooklyn Nets and Cavaliers.

Cleveland drafted Garland with the fifth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. The 24-year-old has career averages of 18.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.1 blocks.

When Mitchell signed his extension with the Cavaliers, he told the front office to keep Allen and Garland, sources said. Mitchell, one of the top players in the NBA, signed a three-year, $150 million extension with Cleveland.

Mitchell, who turns 28 in September, is averaging 27.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Cavaliers. He put up 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.5 blocks per game this past season.

Cleveland has now given Allen, Mitchell and Mobley extensions this offseason. The Cavaliers signed Mobley to a five-year, $224 million rookie contract extension that could become worth as much as $269 million.

The Cavaliers lost to the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games. Multiple NBA execs thought Mitchell would request a trade in the offseason of 2023, but that didn’t happen.

The Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2024 playoffs in seven games but lost to the Boston Celtics in the second round in five games. As was the case in the offseason of 2023, numerous NBA figures were prepared for Mitchell to ask out of Cleveland this offseason.

However, Mitchell never once thought about requesting a trade from the Cavaliers, sources said. He has a good relationship with president of basketball operations Koby Altman, who made sure Mitchell was on board with the Kenny Atkinson hire, sources said.
