The Celtics and star guard/forward Jaylen Brown have agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax contract extension, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The deal is fully guaranteed and includes a trade kicker — and is the richest in NBA history, Charania noted.
Celtics president Brad Stevens recently indicated the team intended to make such an offer to Brown.
“We want Jaylen Brown to be here for a long, long time and we’ve made that clear. We’re looking forward to all sitting down, and we’ve got time here. I probably shouldn’t say anything else, but I feel optimistic.”
Despite strong All-Star play from Brown and fellow wing Jayson Tatum, the modern Celtics have failed to win a championship and have reached the Finals just once. But Brown and Tatum are the biggest reasons they remain championship contenders.
