We all know by know that the Jazz are open to moving Donovan Mitchell — but just how open?
Well, open enough to be motivated to deal him before the start of training camp next month, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
“The Jazz are beginning their business,” Windhorst told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon on the latest Hoops Collective podcast, via RealGM. “They made their first post-Rudy Gobert move earlier this week when they traded Patrick Beverley to the Lakers.
“MacMahon, you said I believe last week that you thought that the Jazz would make a Donovan Mitchell trade before the (regular season) opener. And it sounds to me in talking to people around the league that the Jazz want to try to go even sooner than that. They want to go before training camp.”
MacMahon responded by agreeing with Windhorst. “Of course,” he said.
The Knicks have primarily been linked to a Mitchell trade and are considered the frontrunners to land him by most. But the Jazz have been in contact with several others, including the Hornets and Wizards, per reports.
The Cavs have touched base with the Jazz about Mitchell, but as we relayed, have dropped out of the running.
Mitchell, 25, is 6-foot-1 and has spent his entire career with the Jazz. He averaged 25.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 67 games last season. While the Jazz are open to keeping him, it is seeming less and less likely he will return to Utah.
At last check, the Knicks had proposed a package of five first-round draft picks, as well as Obi Toppin and Evan Fournier … all for Mitchell. So far, it’s been a case of no deal as Ainge holds out for more.
