Trader Danny is at it again, only this time in Utah.
That would be none other than Danny Ainge, now the CEO of the Jazz, who once was head of basketball operations with the Celtics. Back then, he had a reputation for making a wide range of deals to always keep his franchise in contention.
Well, Ainge is back at it, only this time in his first full year running a new team.
And after trading Rudy Gobert in a blockbuster with the Timberwolves, and working the phones on a potential Donovan Mitchell deal, it appears Ainge isn’t finished. Per Tony Jones and Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Jazz have made all of their veteran players available.
Along with Mitchell, Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley and Jordan Clarkson are drawing the most interest. As we relayed, the Lakers and Heat are two teams interested in Beverley, acquired as part of the deal with the Timberwolves.
As we also relayed, the Jazz have already explored a sign-and-trade for Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton, using Mike Conley as bait. They are widely expected to continue that pursuit. We first reported of the Jazz’s interest in Sexton, right here.
But for now, all we know is things aren’t likely to look remotely the same in Utah next season.
After the trade of Gobert, “the Jazz have up to 11 first-round draft picks through 2029 and appear primed to acquire even more in a Mitchell deal to jump-start a full rebuild in a new era under CEO Danny Ainge and head coach Will Hardy. It appears that draft compensation is a goal in a potential deal,” Jones and Charania reported.
The Knicks appear to be in the driver’s seat for Mitchell, though the Heat have also reportedly made an offer and the Nets are believed to be interested.
