The Jazz have agreed to a contract with center Hassan Whiteside, agent Sean Kennedy told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Whiteside, 32, is 7-foot-0 and appeared in 36 games with the Kings last season, averaging career-lows of 8.1 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Still, as Wojarowski noted, he should be able to help the Jazz quite a bit in a reserve role behind Rudy Gobert. Whiteside “remains a force in the paint,” Wojarowski wrote.
“The Jazz are believed to be limited to minimum-salary deals after committing their taxpayer mid-level exception to Rudy Gay, so Whiteside’s deal figures to be for the veteran’s minimum,” wrote Eli Cohen of Hoops Rumors.
Along with Whiteside and Gobert, the Jazz will occasionally use Royce O’Neale or even Joe Ingles at the five when coach Quin Snyder institutes smaller lineups. Former Gobert fill-in Derrick Favors, however, was recetly traded to the Thunder.
Whiteside has also spent time with the Heat and Trail Blazers.
