Veteran point guard Mike Conley Jr. is returning to the Jazz on a three-year contract worth more than $72 million, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Utah needed some cap relief to retain Conley, trading center/forward Derrick Favors to the Thunder last week to create some.
Conley, 33, averaged 16.2 points and 6.0 assists, shooting a career-high 41.2 percent on 3-pointers while making his first All-Star Game appearance. The Jazz finished with the league’s best record, but were eliminated by the Clippers in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.
Conley was injured for much of the series, missing all but the final game with a hamstring issue. Given his injury history, the Jazz may are going to need a point guard capable of playing starter’s minutes even with Conley’s does return, Tony Jones of The Athletic suggested.
