Guard Jaden Springer has agreed to a three-year contract with the Utah Jazz, following a brief 10-day stint with the team, his agent Chad Speak confirmed to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Springer, a 6-foot-4 combo guard, was traded by Boston to Houston at this year’s trade deadline in a cost-cutting move, along with a future second-round pick.
The Rockets quickly waived him, but he soon found a new opportunity with the rebuilding Jazz.
Since joining Utah, Springer has appeared in four games, averaging 3.5 points, 1.3 assists, and 0.8 steals in 8.8 minutes per game.
He has posted an efficient shooting line of .556 from the field, .500 from three, and 1.000 from the free-throw line. Jazz head coach Will Hardy has utilized Springer, along with recent addition KJ Martin, to help strengthen the team’s defense.
The 22-year-old was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Tennessee. Over his first two seasons with the Sixers, Springer struggled to crack the rotation on a contending team.
He was traded to the Boston Celtics midway through the 2023/24 season, but found himself out of coach Joe Mazzulla’s rotation during Boston’s run to the 2024 NBA title. Springer appeared in just four playoff games, averaging 5.5 minutes of garbage time.
Now, with Utah in full developmental mode, Springer will be afforded an extended opportunity to make a tangible impact on the court and carve out a more significant role on the roster.
