This year’s start isn’t nearly as cool as last year’s for the Utah Jazz. So it would be no surprise if they decided to try again to shake things up.
And they are contemplating doing just that, per multiple reports, including one from Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
For starters, opposing executives are under the impression that the Jazz are willing to move guards Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson, as well as forward Kelly Olynyk, Stein reported. The list certainly doesn’t end there.
That said, while the Jazz are highly unlikely to move standout forward Lauri Markkanen, that door isn’t entirely shut, per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. That seems like a major longshot, as Markkanen has emerged as the type of player around whom the Jazz want to build. Still, the Jazz have “left opposing executives with the sense that Markkanen is no longer untouchable in trade conversations,” Fischer wrote.
But it seems the most likely candidate is Sexton, who has been mentioned in trade rumors since at least June. That’s likely because that’s how long the Jazz have made him available, per reports. Sexton, 24, is in year No. 2 of a four-year deal worth $71 million.
What the Jazz are seeking in return for any of their available players, well, they probably don’t even know. We do know head of basketball operations Danny Ainge isn’t afraid to make a splash, and the Jazz, going nowhere, could probably use one.
As an interesting aside to all this — the Jazz may also be willing to move forward John Collins, according to Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune. Utah just acquired Collins in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks this past offseason.
Many players who signed offseason deals became eligible to be traded on Friday. Others, such as Clarkson, will become eligible in January.
