It appears the Warriors are fine with spending big again next season.
Per Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Golden State does not intend to try to dump salary this offseason just to avoid paying luxury tax.
That said, those around the NBA seem to be wondering if the Warriors will indeed want to keep guard Jordan Poole, or move on. Poole is coming off a poor playoff showing — one year after a strong postseason run.
Poole is entering the first of a four-year, $123 million extension that will pay him $27.4 million in 2023-24. Assuming the Warriors retain free agent forward Draymond Green, their overall bill will be more than $400 million, as Slater noted.
That makes Poole “a bigger ticket piece whose future has become murkier,” Slater wrote.
For now, the Warriors seem to be focused on replacing GM/President Bob Myers, who stepped down after more than a decade and four championships.
After that, they will have some big decisions to make, some involving Green, but most involving Poole.
“If the Warriors want to keep Green and still suppress that overall bill back below $400 million, they need to shed a larger salary,” Slater wrote.
