Kansas coach Bill Self said he hasn’t decided on his future after the Jayhawks were stunned by St. John’s in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday.
Self said the decision would be based on his health, and not anything related to the team or his love of the game.
“I’ll get back and get with family and visit and see what’s going on,” Self said after the 67-65 loss, via Paolo Uggetti of ESPN. “I love what I do, I need to be able to do it where I’m feeling good and healthy to do it fairly well. I’ll get back home, and it’ll all be discussed.”
Self, 63, has been hospitalized multiple times over the past few years as he deals with health issues.
The Jayhawks have not advanced beyond the second round in any of the past four seasons.
“The first year we were a 1-seed, and I had serious health issues and I didn’t finish the season,” Self said. “The last two years hasn’t been — well, this year included — it’s been inconsistent and not as good. So obviously it’s disappointing.”
