If the Nets don’t trade Kevin Durant, it appears that it won’t be because they have given up on the idea.
Instead, it would be more like no one else will give them what they’re seeking in return.
But even if they don’t trade Durant, he seems more likely to retire than report to training camp or ever suit up for them again. At least, that is what one source told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Granted, that is a little hard to believe, considering Durant still has four years and a whole lotta money (about $194 million) left on his contract.
Still, it could be true, as Stein wrote that the “well-connected executive” passed along the information at the Las Vegas Summer League last month. And such speculation really is growing around the league.
Durant reportedly prefers a trade to the Suns or Heat, though it is believed he would also be just fine with the Celtics or 76ers. Others said to be in the mix, at least at the moment: The Raptors and Pelicans.
Meanwhile, the Nets apparently have not changed their strategy when it comes to a Durant trade, as we relayed here. This despite him reportedly telling team owner Joe Tsai that he will continue to want a trade unless GM Sean Marks and coach Steve Nash are fired.
