Report: Kevin Durant Has ‘Serious Reservations’ About Playing For Warriors Again, Prefers To Stay With Suns

According to NBA insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein, Kevin Durant has serious reservations about playing for the Golden State Warriors again.

One of the greatest players in NBA history, Durant prefers to remain with the Phoenix Suns.

“There is a distinct sense percolating now that Durant does not want to be traded at all this week … to the extent that he can control it,’ Fischer and Stein wrote. “It is believed that Durant has some serious reservations about a second Warriors stint if he were to be shipped there. He unforgettably won two championships during that first three-season stint, but his final season as a Warrior in 2018-19 was of course marked by a devastating Achilles injury … as well as a growing belief that he wanted a dramatic change of scenery (which he found in Brooklyn) and no longer wanted to play alongside Draymond Green.”

Durant helped the Warriors win back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. He won both Finals MVPs.

Durant tore his Achilles in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals between the Warriors and Toronto Raptors. The NBA legend left Golden State for the Brooklyn Nets in the summer of 2019.

“Sources say there is a possibility, mind you, that Green could be a part of any multi-team trade construction that brings Durant back to Golden State … despite the fact that Green has long been regarded as all but off-limits in trade talks due to his very close relationship with Face of the Franchise Stephen Curry,” Fischer and Stein wrote. “One source briefed on the trade talks, furthermore, advised The Stein Line that the Warriors might have the gumption to trade for Durant anyway … even if they believe he is disinclined to come back.”

Durant is averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season while shooting 52.4% from the field, 39.8% from beyond the arc and 82.7% from the free-throw line. The future Hall of Famer is making $51.2 million.

An NBA source has told Hoops Wire that a trade sending Durant to the Warriors, Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Kuminga to the Suns and Andrew Wiggins to the Miami Heat “could happen.”
