Count NBA legend Kevin Garnett among those impress with Spurs rookie center Victor Wembanyama.
“When you saw David Robinson the first time, you saw it. You didn’t know what you were looking for, but you saw it,” Garnett said on the Ticket and The Truth. “And then you saw Tim Duncan, same. (Wembanyama) has the ‘it factor.’ He’s a top-tier scorer, he got it to where he can lead a team.”
Garnett added he thinks Wembanyama has improved just since being drafted by the Spurs with the first overall pick in June.
“Now, it’s about his IQ and his education. We know what he looks like in another league, and he’s looking different with the knowledge that he’s getting from San Antonio,” Garnett said. “You can see the development, how much he’s grown in a summer. He looks not only stronger, but smarter.”
Wembanyama stands 7-foot-4 but often displays the skills of a guard. He’s coming off a 38-point outburst vs. the Suns.
“Yao Ming was moving like a big oak tree, (Shaquille O’Neal) was roving through. Walking through like an oak tree, bumping into s**t,” Garnett said. “I wanna see Wemby in a salsa competition, see his bachata. He’s light on his feet.”
Last night was just the beginning for Wemby.@KevinGarnett5KG breaks down the intricacies of what makes Victor Wembanyama’s game so NBA ready.
