The Sacramento Kings and center Alex Len have agreed to a one-year contract for Len to return to the franchise for the fourth straight season, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Len appeared in 48 games last season, averaging 2.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.7 blocks. But he’s more space-filler than numbers guy, and clearly, the Kings value his contributions.
“While the numbers don’t jump off the page, Len had the best net rating on the Kings of any player who played regular minutes, finishing with a net rating of 15.4,” wrote Greg Wissinger of the Kings Herald.
Len, 31, will reportedly receive $3.3 million in his new deal. Sacramento is highly likely to continue to look for depth in the frontcourt.
Along with re-signing Len and guard Malik Monk, the Kings could try to make a run at Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma, per multiple reports.
“Kuzma has an appealing contract,” wrote Anthony Slater and Sam Amick of The Athletic. “He is under control for the next three seasons at an affordable and declining rate: $23.5 million, $21.4 million, $19.4 million, attached to a trade kicker that would add $3 million each season unless Kuzma waives it. He remains a name to watch for the Kings heading into the week.”
Monk, 26, appeared in 72 games this past season, averaging 15.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 44.3% from the floor, 35.0% from beyond the arc and 82.9% from the foul line — finishing second in Sixth Man of the Year voting along the way.
He indicated after the season that he wanted to remain with the Kings.
“I’m comfortable in Sacramento,” Monk told reporters. “I’d love to play here again, for sure. I’ve been here for two years and made friends with everyone, including the training staff and front office. I’d love to be back here.”
Len has also served stints with the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors and Wizards.
