Kings guard Dennis Schroder is not losing sleep over trade rumors. Not even a little.
With the Feb. 5 deadline approaching and Sacramento sitting near the bottom of the standings, Schroder made his stance clear after Friday’s 123-118 road loss to the Cavaliers.
“I don’t give a f— about that,” Schroder said, via Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee. “At the end of the day, I enjoy every single day being in the NBA. I don’t take it for granted.”
Schroder backed it up on the floor, coming off the bench to score 21 points, but Sacramento dropped its fourth straight. The Kings (12-34) now own one of the worst records in the league, and the roster could look very different by the time they return home in early February.
League chatter has connected several Kings to potential deals, including Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk, Keon Ellis, and Schroder himself. The front office is widely viewed as exploring ways to reshape a roster heavy on guards and light on long, athletic wings.
If anyone is built for the chaos, it might be Schroder. He was traded three times in a 24-hour stretch last season and says the noise is not affecting the locker room.
“Everybody else in this locker room, they’re just going to play,” he said. “You’re still one of 400 people in the NBA out of eight billion in the world who get to do this.”
Coach Doug Christie echoed that sentiment, calling the group a “brotherhood” and saying the team treats game time as a mental escape from the rumors.
