Just one day after reports suggested Derrick Rose was nearing a return, the Knicks announced that he will actually need to undergo a “minor procedure” on his injured right ankle.
So there is actually no timeline on a return, the Knicks said.
Rose suffered an ankle injury vs. the Rockets in December. He was initially listed out for eight weeks.
Already missing Rose, the Knicks and point guard Kemba Walker have agreed that Walker will sit out the rest of the season. Walker has not been much of a fit, perhaps through no fault of his own. Either way, New York is now incredibly short-handed at the position.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau suggested that Alec Burks would start at point guard in Walker’s and Rose’s absence, though Burks is much more of a shooting guard or even small forward by nature.
Rose, 33, is 6-foot-2 and averaging 12.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 26 appearances this season. The former No. 1 overall pick isn’t the player he once was, but the Knicks (25-34) just never seem to be the same without him.
