The Knicks have renounced the rights to point guard Frank Ntilikina, as relayed by Keith Smith of Spotrac.
Ntilikina, 23, is 6-foot-4 and was selected with the No. 8 overall pick in 2017. But he fell almost entirely out of the rotation under coach Tom Thibodeau, as New York made a run to the playoffs.
Ntilikina averaged a career-low 2.7 points in 33 games last season — one year after posting averages of 6.3 points and 3.0 assists.
His departure was basically sealed after the Knicks picked up re-sgined Derrick Rose and picked up Kemba Walker in free agency.
Still, Ntilikina is likely to draw interest on the free agent market, as a cheaper low-risk signing, a move that will perhaps come closer to training camp in late September/early October.
